Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Launches First-of-its-Kind «Quantum AI» Laboratory in Kazakhstan

The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) has held an official opening ceremony for the «Quantum AI» laboratory. Established within the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, this new research and educational center is a unique innovation hub, the first of its kind in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This large-scale project was realized with the support of SpinQ Technology (PRC), an international technology company specializing in the production of advanced quantum systems.

Seven modern quantum computing systems were delivered to the new center. To date, these are the only quantum computers in Kazakhstan. This unique equipment will allow students and researchers to conduct high-level educational sessions and laboratory work, carry out complex research projects, and develop unique machine learning algorithms.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNU, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, emphasized that this initiative plays a crucial role in transforming the university into a world-class research center.

"Currently, artificial intelligence, big data, and quantum computing define the new direction of global science and the economy. The integration of quantum technologies and AI opens the way to solving the most complex problems in cryptography, medicine, and the modeling of complex systems that were previously beyond the capabilities of classical computers," said the head of the university.

The Rector expressed confidence that the commitment to combining education, science, and industry will continue, and that the laboratory’s results will contribute to strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty.

According to Timur Imankulov, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, local specialists are fully prepared to work with the advanced equipment. The new laboratory will serve as an open platform where senior students, together with experienced mentors, will be able to participate in real-world industrial projects. This foundation will significantly increase the competitiveness of the faculty's graduates in the international labor market.

During the event, the «Quantum AI» laboratory and plans for developing unique machine learning algorithms were presented to the general public.
