Steps for putting the “Adal Azamat” unified education program into practice

Steps for putting the “Adal Azamat

"Knowledge without upbringing is the enemy of humanity."

Abu Nasr al-Farabi

The future will be eternal only for a people who deeply understand their history and truly know how to appreciate national values. It is obvious that in the era of powerful globalization, only a nation's own history, native language, culture and national values are capable of preserving it. It is precisely its national values that distinguish one nation from another: literary heritage, customs and traditions, culture, art, household items, national games and other distinctive features.

Only when our national values receive their true appreciation will what has been lost be restored and what has faded be renewed. National values begin with respect for the nation. Their highest peak lies in the word "ұят болады" ("it would be shameful"). The elders, guiding us onto the right path, established many prohibitions: "let the elders begin the meal first," "greet with both hands," "do not laugh much, do not talk much," "know your seven ancestors by heart" — and at the end of it all they would say that it would be shameful. And indeed, where there is shame, culture and moral qualities are undoubtedly preserved. As the saying goes, "if you want to become a people, set your cradle right": our main task is to instill national values in the younger generation from an early age and to educate citizens who will take into their hands the reins of governing the country tomorrow.

Kindergarten No. 49 "Altynai" in the city of Astana is contributing to the solution of this task. The Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, noted: "A teacher is, above all, a respected specialist. And being a teacher is a sacred duty" — and these words carry a deep meaning. Equally apt are his words: "Whether a person becomes a good person and a strong specialist depends primarily on his teacher. To give the younger generation edifying upbringing and advanced knowledge is the most important duty of the pedagogical community."

The kindergarten continuously carries out work to promote national values. If I say that preserving national values and promoting culture and art is the pinnacle of upbringing, this would not be an exaggeration. The activities implemented every week: "My Kazakhstan" — the pupils perform the Anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan. By performing the anthem, we awaken patriotic feelings in children and cultivate love for the nation and respect for state symbols. After the completion of meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — a bata (blessing) is given. Every Monday is declared a national day: the kindergarten staff and pupils wear national clothing, and the children play national games. "A national game is the treasure of the nation." At any time of the day, children often play nationally educational games such as "Bestemshe," "Asyk atu," "Bes tas," "Shertpek" and others, developing their physical and cognitive abilities.

"Thrifty consumption" — the formation of skills of careful consumption of water, food, energy and natural resources, as well as a careful attitude toward them in the course of activities. Today, children are accustomed, when washing their hands, not to leave the water running unnecessarily, but to turn it off until they lather their hands. They know that playing by whipping up foam from liquid soap is also wrong. During meals, they remind their friends that one must eat neatly, without spilling or scattering, and that in rooms other than the playroom, the lights must be turned off.

"Küi kümbiri" — the melody of küi — has been introduced for use during the morning reception at the kindergarten and when putting the children down for a daytime nap. Special electronic "Kiiz üi" and "Aqyldy qoyan" can be used freely. Sometimes girls in high spirits, hearing the küi melody in the morning, enter dancing — and this becomes an occasion to lift their friends' mood. Listening to küi develops creative abilities.

The mottoes of the week are proverbs and sayings, aphorisms, folk wisdom, edifying words of great personalities, used in the course of activities. The mottoes of the week are placed on the information stands of each group, on boards and in the corridors. Along with the pupils, parents also read and study the mottoes of the week and photograph them on their mobile phones. By explaining the meaning of each new word, we increase the children's minimum vocabulary, and by repeating, we develop their speech and enhance their communication abilities.

"Safety rules" — this is the study of traffic rules and the fundamentals of life safety, conversations during which children are taught personal safety and the rules of safe behavior. In order to teach safety compliance, various activities are organized according to the plan. Together with parents, exhibitions related to fire safety and traffic rules are arranged, and play sessions and role-playing games are held on the topics: not talking to strangers, not approaching the window, not playing with sharp objects and lighters, not going near electrical appliances.

Along with the upbringing of children, a close connection with parents is being established, and active work is being carried out. "15 minutes of edification" is a daily individual conversation with parents during the morning reception of children: about the child's behavior and moral qualities, his adaptation to the new environment, and the successes achieved. Parents have become accustomed to this process. Every day they come with the thought: what kind word will the teacher say today about my child, or what topic might be raised.

Parents actively participate in meetings, joint thematic exhibitions, festive matinees, various games and entertainments, round tables, trainings and seminars, setting an example for their children.

From the point of view of policy development, "Adal azamat" is defined as a unified educational program covering all educational institutions, the ultimate goal of which is the formation of "an honest citizen, a pillar of society, a vivid embodiment of justice, morality, responsibility and diligence." This goal is implemented starting from kindergarten through the "graduate model" for the development of children's moral qualities, responsibility and creative abilities. In other words, a child from the first day in kindergarten enters a value-oriented system of growth, rather than beginning to receive "upbringing" only after entering school.
