The Kazakhstan National Team Won Six Medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)

From July 13 to 21, 2026, the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) was held in Shanghai (People's Republic of China). About 700 schoolchildren from 117 countries participated in one of the world's most prestigious and oldest intellectual competitions..

Following the Olympiad, the Kazakhstan national team won 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The silver medalists are: Timur Murat, a 12th-grade student at Haileybury Almaty International School; Ali Erkebulanovich, an 11th-grade student at the NURORDA School-Lyceum in Almaty; and Batyrkhan Beyganov, a 10th-grade student at the Republican Physics and Mathematics School.

The bronze medalists are: Yerasyl Altynbek, an 11th-grade student at the NURORDA School-Lyceum in Almaty; Margulan Sharel, a 12th-grade student at Spectrum International School in Astana; and Amirlan Amanzholov, a 12th-grade student at Haileybury Almaty International School.

Team leaders: Asylbek Abdiazhimovich Issakhov, President of the Kazakhstan-American Free University; and Kanat Kairatovich Satylkhanov, a multiple-time prize-winner of international and national olympiads.

The International Mathematical Olympiad has been held since 1959 and is the oldest and one of the most prestigious subject olympiads in the world. Kazakhstan has been participating in this intellectual competition since 1992. Over this period, the national team has competed in the Olympiad 34 times, winning 16 gold, 54 silver, and 86 bronze medals, as well as 30 honorable mentions.
